Oh, where to begin … Billy Squier personified that weird period between 1979 and 1984 — not the 70s anymore, but not quite the 80s yet, when jeans were tight and guys had hair like Andy Travis. Billy Squier was some kind of guitar hotshot who loaded his crap songs up with synths and piled reverb onto his vocals to create that “arena rock” sound.
It didn’t work. And to make it worse, he somehow ended up starring in this video, which features the fierce rock star in pastel-coloured yoga clothes, dancing like he’s Sweatin’ to the Oldies. I get embarrassed watching it, and I’m only watching it. This guy had to be in it.
Whatever happened to Billy Squier? Well, he’s still at it. He spends his time touring, either with his solo show or as part of Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band, which also features Richard Marx, Colin Hay from Men at Work, and Richard Simmons.
